It’s time for our first Potluck Pig of 2026. I know, I know. You’re thinking, It’s a pig. But humor me. There’s always a point. Eventually.
Some of you may have seen this flying pig pop up on Instagram a few months ago, but it deserved a proper introduction here. This little guy was a gift from my friend Jodi, who spotted it and immediately thought, That belongs to Carole. I’m endlessly grateful for friends who don’t just tolerate my collecting habits but actively enable them. That kind of support is priceless. And occasionally winged.

Yes, this pig flies. And yes, I am fully aware that pigs do not actually take flight. I promise I live in the real world. But this pig serves as a reminder I need again and again: just because something feels impossible doesn’t mean it is.
“Pigs fly” is shorthand for that will never happen. But I prefer a slightly different interpretation. What if it means not the way you expect or not yet or not without a little creativity and persistence? That’s the version I like.
When I look at this pig, I’m reminded that goals rarely unfold in a straight line. They zigzag. They pause. They double back. Sometimes they ask you to try something new or sit with uncertainty longer than you’d planned. Sometimes they ask you to believe in a version of yourself that hasn’t quite caught up yet.
This feels especially true with creative work. Writing a book, painting a picture, or throwing a pot can feel a lot like trying to make a pig fly. There are days when progress is invisible. Days when doubt gets loud. Days when it seems like everyone else received an instruction manual you somehow missed.
But here’s what this flying pig reminds me: there are many ways to reach a goal. Not one right path. Not one acceptable timeline. Not one definition of success.
So no, pigs don’t fly. But optimism does. Persistence does. Community does. And sometimes, with enough imagination and support, the impossible looks a little more possible.
Here’s to open minds, unexpected paths, and at least one flying pig cheering us on in 2026.
